The art-collecting upperclass is unwelcome!
100 international artists and groups in an art-political subversion of the status quo.
We all know those artists who put the world into question without – seriously – putting the world of art into question. For the fith consecutive summer, "unlimited liability" is doing the latter, while trying to create ideal conditions of presentation and distribution for art production that acts politically. This experimental Hamburg shop offers a wide spectrum of art-projects and multiples from over 100 producers, and in accordance with a economic model designed for this purpose. The basis of this model is a legally-binding contract which was drawn up by a German attorney. "unlimited liability" puts the 'normal' world of art (art-market + those mediators and makers who peacefully coexist with it) into question. "Putting into question" is not meant as simple discourse or self-positioning, but as a performative act. "unlimited liability" uses a means with real consequences: Contract Law.
Anyone can visit "unlimited liability" and enjoy the works, watch the DVDs, listen to the vinyl records and CDs. However – and thanks to the contract – only those people with less than €50,000 in assets can actually take these things home with them. This contract also bears on any resale of the works, which is only possible with the consent of the respective artists, who also get 60% of the resale price.
„unlimited liability“ sells art production instead of art-commodities.
